Makeup Tips for Redheads

Some of Hollywood’s hottest stars are heating up the screen with blazing red hair (and sassy personalities to match). From Christina Hendricks to Nicole Kidman, these fiery ladies are taking the world by storm. If you’re a redhead or thinking about becoming one, there are a few makeup tips you may want to keep in mind.

Let your lips do the talking. Nothing pairs better with red hair than a pop of color on the lips. The classic look is cherry red, but it’s not the only way to go. A nice, natural beige or light pink can be very elegant, or even something more quirky like coral. Don’t be afraid to experiment with lip color. The right hue for you will depend a lot on your skin tone and shade of red hair.

Skip the bronzer. Most redheads have pale skin, which is incredibly lovely, but doesn’t always do well with bronzer. Opt instead for peachy shades of blush, which will offer a warm glow without drawing unwanted attention.

Play up the lashes. Dark, dramatic lashes look incredible peeking out from under an auburn fringe. Choose a very dark brown or black mascara and don’t be afraid of the eyelash curler. The longer and darker, the better.

Enjoy your freckles. If you are lucky enough to have a spattering of freckles, don’t try to cover them up. They’re nothing to be embarrassed about; in fact, most people find them charming. When you cake on the amount of makeup it takes to cover up freckles, you will end up looking severely overdone. Instead, use a light concealer to cover up dark eye circles and a tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone.

Have fun with your eyes. In addition to dramatic lashes, play with colorful eyeliners and eye shadows in rich blue and purple shades. If you want to go for something less playful and more sexy, try a smoky, come-hither look. Your eyes will pop and the contrast with your hair will be unbelievably alluring.
