How To Care For Dry Hair
It’s hard to feel good about yourself when you run your fingers through your hair and it feels dry. Not only does dry hair not look good, it can cause dandruff and break more easily. Some causes of dry hair include washing your hair too often, chemically treating your hair, using hair appliances such as blow dryers or irons too often and medical problems. Here are some tips on how to care for dry hair that are easy to follow and will help your situation.
Hold The Shampoo
Washing your hair with shampoo is one of the easiest ways to strip your hair of moisture and dry it out. Washing your hair two times per week with a shampoo that is made for your hair type is all you really need to clean your hair.
Use The Right Kind Of Conditioner
Many people love scented conditioners which makes sense because the fragrances in conditioners often times feel like aromatherapy. However while we tend to love fragrant conditioners they are actually bad for our hair because the more fragrant the conditioner is the more alcohol it usually has and alcohol is definitely a drying ingredient in any beauty product. To find a conditioner that is not drying read the label of the product that you want to purchase to make sure that alcohol is not one of the ingredients.
Put Down The Brush
Too much brushing can dry out your hair, break it and cause it to fall out. However since you do have to brush your hair so that you look presentable, it’s best to run a comb through your hair when it’s wet. If you still prefer to brush your hair, then brush it when your hair is dry.
Cool It
Hair styling heated accessories such as hair dryers, flat irons and curling irons are horrible for your hair and if done often are a sure fire way to get dry burnt looking hair. If you want to avoid looking like a scare crow try to stay away from heated appliances as much as possible. If you have to use a blow dryer on a regular basis then it’s best to keep the iron a few inches away from your hair.
Lay Off The Chemicals
Perming you hair or dying it regularly is one of the most damaging things that you can do to your hair. Depending on how fast your hair grows you may want to get your hair reworked every two months. This is a horrible idea. Instead touch up your roots, but be conservative about how often you do it.
Use A Hair Mask
Depending on the type of hair mask you plan on using you can apply a hair mask weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly. Make sure that the hair mask that you use is one that is meant to soften your hair.
Drizzle On The Oil
Argan oil is a natural Moroccan oil that is infamous for smoothing and softening dry hair. You really won’t need more than a few drops to make your hair look and feel better. Coconut oil is also a great hair oil that will improve the look and feel of your hair.
Watch You Diet
It’s amazing how often you see food and water mentioned in beauty posts. The reason for this is that what you put into your body has a direct impact on your body. If you eat lots of fresh fruits, veggies, low fat dairy and fish then your eyes will be brighter, your skin will look better and yes, your hair will be healthier. Drinking enough water hydrates your body and transports all the nutrients to the right organs.
While it may be difficult to do some of these things at first (I know that I miss my hair dryer from time to time) the results that you will see over time should make up for it.
